About Luzme

Origins

Luzme was set up in 2008 (under the name eBookPrice.info) in response to the confusing state of the eBook market. The original concept was to provide a search and price comparison service for eBook titles that took into account the various formats and applicable restrictions.

Luzme is now used by:

  • Book-lovers, who are looking to find eBooks at a good price
  • Corporate customers, who want to source timely and accurate eBook price information.
  • Developers, who want to use the API for their own ebook applications

Who's behind it?

Rachel Willmer has always been happiest at the bleeding edge of technology. Over the last 25 years her insatiable curiousity about disruptive technologies has led her to work in a variety of technical roles: programmer, manager, Dot-Com founder, and consultant-for-hire.

Rachel's views on e-readers

I still use the original Sony Reader PRS-505; since then, I've bought (and sold) a Kindle Mark 2 (buttons too noisy, size too large, battery life too poor).

I'm now reading eBooks on:

  • An Amazon Kindle 3:
great for novels and getting books on the move.
  • An Apple iPad:
excellent for technical computing books because of the large screen.
  • An Apple iPhone:
when I'm standing on the bus.
  • The original Sony PRS-505: an excellent mix of battery life, screen size and general feel.

All the e-readers I've tried have different merits; for me, the choice depends very much on what kind of book it is - for example, I love reading books on my Kindle 3; but would hate to have to read technical books on it. When I want to refer to a technical book, the iPad is great - back-lit, colour diagrams, big screen; but I'd hate to read novels on it for very long.
